New York City

Direct Action Everywhere’s New York City chapter was founded in 2014. Since then, the chapter has held monthly meet-ups, actions, and farm sanctuary volunteer days around the New York area. In 2015, the chapter organized and hosted a convergence of all the Northeast chapters. During the convergence, activists disrupted places of violence including the popular Smorgasburg food festival and a Wall Street Journal talk. In 2016, activists successfully disrupted the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest with other activists from across the Northeast. The New York City chapter helped organized a disruption of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade by jumping the barricades and blocking the Turkey float, which symbolizes the violence central to the holiday.
