Sincere Motivations

An insightful note by DxE's Priya Sawhney:

A simple thought of love and liberation, a world where beings don’t have to be confined and enslaved because they are considered weaker or inferior, an idea that justice is a right which should be extended to all non-human animals. :
FOR THE VICTIMS
“This is about them and their need to be free, not about us and our need for recognition.” -Anonymous
The animals—their faces, their names, their stories, their struggles, their desires, their dreams, their need to be free. As activists, it’s our duty to raise awareness and speak up for those whose voices have been silenced. We can speak, so, let’s use our voices to express in words what the animals convey in their screams and cries for help—a sense of urgency. In every action we take, in every demonstration we put on, and in every protest we organize—the animals must be the focus.
EMPHASIS ON ACTION
“An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson
It’s important to have dialogue around effective activism. It’s even important to debate, and disagreements can be opportunities to learn and grow. However, it’s just as important to make sure that our ideological differences don’t come to define the way in which we work. The emphasis should always be on action and no matter how compelling someone’s point may be, actions truly do speak louder than words. Our emphasis should always be on taking action against injustice and for Animal Liberation. So, how much ever we may disagree, we must support anyone and everyone who is taking action for the animals.
FULLFILLING OUR MORAL OBLIGATIONS
“In order to be worthy of justice, you must serve justice. –Asaf Harduf
It’s easy to glorify ourselves for speaking up for the animals; it’s easy to think of ourselves as heroes. However, the reality is that we aren’t better than others for taking action and raising our voices. It is our duty and our moral obligation to act against injustice and fight for freedom. After all, if we are free today, it’s because courageous people put the onus upon themselves to fight for justice.
Doing the right thing is powerful, but what motivates us is even more powerful.
