Los Angeles’ luxe grocery chain is hiding animal cruelty behind its viral trends and high prices. Urge Erewhon to audit its animal product supply chain and go factory farm-free.

In 2025, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) investigated Vera Goat Dairy, a supplier to Meyenberg, the largest producer of goat milk in the United States. Investigators documented an illegal dead pile containing dozens of decomposing mother and baby goats. Necropsy findings indicated parasitic infection, bacterial disease, emaciation, and severe muscle atrophy, conditions that raise serious concerns under California’s animal cruelty laws.

Following this investigation, DxE activists launched a campaign calling on Erewhon to drop Meyenberg Goat Milk. After Erewhon failed to respond to initial outreach, DxE organizers visited the company’s headquarters in Vernon, California to hand-deliver a formal letter. As activists reviewed the other animal products on Erewhon’s shelves, the targeted ask to drop a single supplier grew into a broader demand: that Erewhon adopt a comprehensive, factory farm-free policy.

DxE continued to follow up through multiple channels, including certified mail and repeated direct outreach. Erewhon also sells brands including Mary’s Free Range Organic Chicken, Diestel Turkey, Organic Valley, Clover Sonoma, and others which source from factory farms.

Erewhon is continuing to expand while ignoring the routine abuse of countless animals in its supply chains.

Erewhon’s customers trust the company to vet suppliers and reject “humanewashing.” Instead, Erewhon is complicit in selling false humane labels to people paying premium prices for so-called ethical products.

Contact Erewhon today to ask them to adopt a factory farm-free policy.
