But perhaps most remarkably, the footage offers a rare view of what is arguably the most overlooked form of extreme confinement of farmed animals in the US.

Animal welfare groups, namely the Bay Area chapter of Direct Action Everywhere, or DxE, had also protested the track’s operations. Prior to the track’s closure, DxE routinely protested at the facility, held funerals for horses that died on site and created a petition to shut down the track, according to DxE spokesperson Cassie King.

The grocery chain Good Earth Natural Foods shared in a March 5 email and in signage placed around its stores it has decided to stop carrying Rosie’s Chicken in its stores. Rosie’s is produced by Petaluma Poultry, a subsidiary of Perdue Farms. The decision, according to the posted notices, was because “We have concerns around their animal handling practices and the lack of transparency into their operations.”
